Rosie Potts makes fiction films that aim to connect, move and challenge.

Her work so far explores how we change through relationships, the dynamics of care / professionalised care, connections between different generations in families, aging, illness and sexuality.

Her award winning, BIFA Qualifying & Genera funded first short film Olive has been praised for its depiction of an 80 year old woman with a vivid emotional life. Her second short The Catch Up about the uncanny experience of being replaced in the life of an ex - is in post-production.

Prior to filmmaking, Rosie worked as a Clinical Psychologist in NHS services using psychodynamic approaches. She is interested in how film and art more generally, like psychotherapy, can represent what’s unconscious, opening up new possibilities for how we think, feel and relate to each other.

Rosie likes working closely with collaborators to make fiction based on real life experiences. Her directing practice and how she works with actors is influenced by 10 years making theatre as part of the award winning queer performance collective “Pecs Drag Kings” (Winner, Off West End Theatre Award). Rosie is currently developing her own short and long form projects as a writer / director, and is also available to direct other writer’s work.
